This new header is a painting by Alexandre Brun who painted this view of the West Wall with a door leading to the Grande Gallerie of Le Louvre. Le Salon Carré as the room is called was from 1848 to 1914 where the museum put all of its greatest masterpieces. The paintings are hung in the Academic School Style which was so fashionable then unlike today.
I love rooms like that in a Museum though you do not see that very often nowadays.
oh I love the new header.

Reminds me of The Barnes in Philly, one of the few places where works are displayed in this manor.

The Courtauld reconstructed a show with paintings hung just lke that. And I don’t know if you’ve seen Mike Leigh’s consummate Mr Turner, but a Royal Academy show of the 19th century is mocked up with great success and looks beautiful, as everything does, in the filming.
I think there are still rooms on the top floor of the V&A which look a bit like that. Anyway, it’s such a handsome painting to have as your header.
