The art of the Portrait painting before the age of the camera and the selfie shows in my opinion the superiority of painting over the mechanical elements which are cameras who can give a crude picture of anyone without the softness painting brings forward.



Self-portrait of Auguste-Jean-Marie Vinchon (1789-1855), a pupil of Gioacchino Giuseppe Serangeli in his Paris studio, went on to, winning the second Prix de Rome for painting in 1813 and the first Prix de Rome in 1814 for his painting of the Death of Diagoras, blossoming into artistic fame as a painter of historical subjects.
